Working in close partnership with their Clients to continually increase operational efficiencies, Avonwood helped them to drive down distribution costs by implementing Eureka-iD.
A contract with a leading manufacturer of structural pre-cast concrete products for the construction industry was no exception.
Contracted to manage all the delivery and distribution logistics for the manufacturers finished pre-cast concrete products around the UK, with vehicles liveried in the customer’s corporate colours and operating out of 4 UK production plants, Avonwood provided an RFID solution to help mange this distribution chain.
Relying on key assets
The advanced manufacturing processes of the concrete production facilities are reliant on specialist pallets used throughout the manufacturing process. Once these pallets exit the manufacturing plant they are then used to transport the concrete products on trailers for delivery throughout the UK. It is imperative that each site has a constant supply of these specialist pallets to ensure the production facilities are kept operating at maximum efficiency.
The provided solution
Investing in the latest RFID technology, Avonwood’s clients chose to implement the Eureka-iD active tagging system to help improve the efficiency and logistics management of such a large operational fleet of vehicles.
Each of the specialist pallets, tractors and trailers were fitted with Eureka-iD tags, and as the vehicles pass a sites gatehouse the Eureka-iD tags transmit their unique identification number and direction of travel in which the three components are moving.
Monitoring via a remote link the movements of the key logistics assets ensures that any potential issues are highlighted early and management processes can be implemented to ensure that the customer’s sites are kept supplied with the required specialist pallets during production.
The Active RFID Choice
The operational benefits of the Eureka-iD system make it an ideal choice for both this client’s requirement and many other vehicle and logistics applications needing accurate managed data and reliable performance from an active RFID tag.
The robust Eureka-iD tag can be activated up to 5 meters from an antenna and will transmit data and location information back to a reader unit located up to 100 meters away. Minimal hardware infrastructure required for this operational system makes Eureka-iD a cost effective solution along with flexible system design to allow each sites entry and exit points and any other areas requiring monitoring to be easily covered.
One of the key features of Eureka-iD is the ability to identify key logistics assets and also communicate their direction of travel so the system knows if an asset is entering or leaving an area. This is achieved without the need for GPS location and is due to the intelligent capabilities of the Eureka-iD system.
